You guys are going to love this one!
I have been reviewing a program created by Liz and Phil Weaver called Break Pal.
The whole idea behind the program is to get people that are strapped to their desks up and moving! Let's face it, sitting at our computers all day not only makes us stiff and sore it's also causing us to become more and more sedentary and physically out of shape. Break Pal tries to counteract that problem by getting you up from your desk at timed intervals throughout the day and gives you a quick workout for you to complete.
Break Pal can be used as a fun workplace wellness program for large corporations but would work just as well in smaller office settings or if you're like me and stuck to your desk in a home office. No matter who or where you are, Break Pal can be easily incorporated in to your daily computer time.
I found it quite easy to get started. All you have to do is sign up for the program and download a small desktop application. Once you've done that, you can edit your settings and select how often you'd like to be reminded to get up off your chair! Then you just go about your business as normal!
The application will pop up when it's time to move. With the click of a mouse you are taken to the Break Pal website where you have your choice of activities ranging from mild to cardio. You choose your activity and workout along with the motivating video. The micro workouts average about 2-3 minutes. Now who can't handle 2 or 3 minutes at a time?
So what did I honestly think of the program?
I love it!
I am extremely, extremely out of shape! I suffered a heart attack back in January and have been pretty much stuck at my desk ever since. I have just recently been well enough to start to get up and move. Let me tell you - I was out of shape before the heart attack, now I'm really out of shape! I get so stiff from sitting here, my legs swell, my feet swell and the most exercise I was getting was a trip to the washroom or coffee break!
I haven't been at my desk as much in the past couple weeks due to summer holidays and family activities, but I've been using Break Pal when I am stuck at my desk! I have started out easy - setting the interval to once every hour. I've tried out a variety of workout lessons, everything from Chair stretches and chair exercises to Cardio Kung Fu. I found all the lessons to be quite easy to learn with the video right there in front of you and Liz talking you through it. I have been able to do each lesson with no problem at all. Being able to choose which micro workout you want to do is a great plus! You aren't stuck doing some high impact program that's impossible to keep up with and makes you feel totally inadequate! Don't for once second think that because the lessons are low impact they aren't doing anything for you - lol! Believe me - you can feel it!
I think the Break Pal program is ingenious! My hat goes off to Phil and Liz, they have found a way to get even someone as out of shape and "lazy" as myself up and out of my chair and moving! Do I feel better - I can honestly say "Yes". I find I am no longer as stiff and sore as I used to be after a day spent at the desk. My feet and legs aren't swelling as much as they were and I actually feel better both physically and emotionally. I feel like I am accomplishing something health wise for myself, it clears my head, gets me breathing a little better and just refreshes me. It may be small baby steps but it's far more than I was doing before. If I can do it - you can bet anyone else can!
The cost of the program is $9.95 a month, a very small price to pay when you factor in all the benefits it offers. I spend way more than that a week just on junk food that I shouldn't be having anyway!
Guess what? Phil and Liz have offered one of my readers a Premium, Lifetime Membership to Break Pal!!! Don't let this one get away!
